About Mogalrajapuram Caves
The Mogalrajapuram caves are a group of small rock-cut shrines inside Vijayawada city, dated to the 5th century Vishnukundina period. They hold some of the earliest carvings in south India, including a figure of Ardhanarishvara and a dancing Nataraja. Only one or two caves are in a fair state, and the site is small and hemmed in by houses. It is worth an hour on the way to the Kanaka Durga temple.
