About Nagarjunakonda
Nagarjunakonda is an island in the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir where the monuments of the Ikshvaku capital Vijayapuri were rebuilt after the valley was flooded by the dam in the 1960s. The island museum holds Buddhist sculpture, relic caskets and models of the drowned city. Boats leave from Vijayapuri South near the right bank of the dam and the crossing takes about 40 minutes. Boat times are limited, so check before going. The dam itself is worth seeing from the road on the bank.
