About Murudeshwar
Murudeshwar is a temple town on a headland where a 37 m seated Shiva, among the tallest in the world, faces the Arabian Sea beside a 20 storey gopura. A lift takes visitors up the tower for a view over the statue and the beach. The temple itself is old but the statue and tower were built in the early 2000s. Murudeshwar has its own railway station on the Konkan line and is the base for scuba boats to Netrani island.
