About Munger Fort

A large fort on a rocky rise above the Ganga, where Mir Qasim moved his capital from Murshidabad in 1762 to get away from the British in Calcutta, only to lose everything the next year. Inside the walls are the Pir Shah Nafah dargah, remains of the Shah Shuja and Mir Qasim palaces, and the Kashtaharini Ghat, where pilgrims bathe to be rid of their troubles. Much of the fort is offices and a jail, but the walls, ghat and dargah are open.
