About Mudgal Fort
Mudgal Fort in Lingsugur taluk is one of the best preserved forts of the Deccan, with a wide moat, a double line of walls and bastions and a fortified gateway. Like Raichur it changed hands many times between Vijayanagara and the Bahmani sultans as part of the disputed Raichur Doab between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers. Inside are old cannons, a mosque and a Jain temple, and the town has a 16th century Catholic church founded by Portuguese Jesuits. Mudgal is about 100 km west of Raichur.
