About Maski

Maski is a small town in Lingsugur taluk where in 1915 a rock edict was found that for the first time named Ashoka by his own name, settling the question of who Devanampiya Piyadasi was. The edict is carved on a boulder in a cave on a hill outside the town and is protected by a small enclosure. Maski also has Neolithic and Iron Age ash mound sites and old gold workings. It lies on the Raichur to Lingsugur road, about 80 km from Raichur.
