About Merta City and Charbhuja Temple

Merta was founded by Rao Duda in 1460 and his granddaughter was Meera Bai, the Krishna poet whose songs are still sung across north India. The Charbhuja temple where she is said to have worshipped as a girl is the reason people come, along with a small Meera museum in the old fort. The town itself is an ordinary Marwar market town, which is part of the appeal.
