About Mekedatu and Sangama

Sangama is where the Arkavathi joins the Cauvery, about 90 km south of Bengaluru, and Mekedatu is the narrow gorge 4 km downstream where the whole river squeezes through a rock cleft. Visitors cross the Arkavathi by coracle at Sangama and take the forest bus to the gorge. The river looks calm but the current is strong and people drown here every year, so stay out of deep water. The route passes through the Cauvery wildlife sanctuary.
