About Mahabar Sand Dunes
A stretch of low dunes a few kilometres south of Barmer on the Chohtan road, where the town goes for sunset and the odd desert camp sets up in winter. There is none of the Sam or Khuri circus here, just sand, a few camels and a very dark sky. April to June is dangerous heat and not the time; November to February is right.
What to see and do
- Sunset over the dunes
- Camel rides from the village
- Dark night skies
- Small winter camps
