About Barmer Ajrakh and Embroidery
Barmer district is one of the two homes of ajrakh, the deep indigo and madder block print of the Khatri printers, and of the mirror and applique embroidery that the Meghwal and Sindhi communities do at home. Workshops in the city and in the villages towards Balotra will let you watch the printing and sell to you directly, at prices well below the Jaipur shops. Ask at your hotel for a printer to call on.
What to see and do
- Ajrakh block printing in indigo and madder
- Applique and patchwork quilts
