About Magadi Bird Sanctuary
Magadi is a village irrigation tank in Shirahatti taluk that fills with thousands of bar-headed geese every winter, one of the biggest gatherings of the species in south India. Painted storks, spot-billed pelicans, brahminy ducks and many waders also use the tank from November to February. A watchtower and a walking path along the bund give good views, and morning is best before the geese fly out to feed. The lake is 26 km from Gadag on the road to Lakshmeshwar.
