About Lakkundi

Lakkundi was a rich Chalukya city called Lokkigundi and still has about 50 temples and over 100 stepwells inside one village, 11 km from Gadag. The Kasivisvesvara temple has some of the most finely carved doorways in Karnataka, and the Brahma Jinalaya is the largest Jain temple of the western Chalukyas. Ornate stepwells such as Musukina Bhavi sit right beside the temples. An ASI sculpture gallery in the village gathers loose pieces, and the place is quiet enough that you often have the temples to yourself.
