About Madikeri
Madikeri is the district headquarters of Kodagu and the usual base for a Coorg trip. The town sits at about 1170 metres among coffee estates and has a small fort and palace, the Omkareshwara temple with its tank, and Raja's Seat, a garden viewpoint where the Kodava kings watched the sunset over the western valleys. Homestays on the estates around town fill up on long weekends from October to January, so book ahead. Buses run from Bengaluru and Mysuru; the nearest railway station is Mysuru, about 120 km away.
