About Jetavana Monastery
The monastery the merchant Anathapindika bought from Prince Jeta, by the story covering the ground in gold coins, and where the Buddha spent 24 rainy seasons, more than anywhere else. What remains are the brick footings of monasteries and stupas in a mown park, with the Gandhakuti and Kosambakuti marked where his huts stood. The Anandabodhi tree is a descendant of the Sri Lankan sapling and monks from a dozen countries chant under it.
