About Jama Masjid, Upar Kot
Sabit Khan, the Mughal governor of Koil, built this on the high ground of Upar Kot in 1724. It is a large mosque with gilded domes, and a number of shaheed are said to be buried in its courtyard. The lanes around it are the heart of the old city and of the Aligarh lock trade, with small workshops and the wholesale taala market a short walk away.
