About Aligarh Fort
A polygonal earthwork fort with a deep moat, rebuilt for the Marathas by the French officer Perron in the 1790s and stormed by Lord Lake's army on 4 September 1803 in one of the bloodiest assaults of the Anglo-Maratha war. It now sits inside the Aligarh Muslim University campus, kept by the botany department as a garden, so it is quiet and a little overgrown.
What to see and do
- Site of the 1803 Battle of Ally Ghur
