About Aligarh Muslim University
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan opened the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College here in 1875 and it became a university in 1920. The campus is a walk through Indo-Saracenic Aligarh: Victoria Gate, Strachey Hall, the 1915 university mosque, and Sir Syed House, where he lived and which is now a small museum run by the Sir Syed Academy. The Maulana Azad Library is one of the largest university libraries in Asia.
