About Jalore Fort
The fort sits on the flat top of Sonagir hill, 330 metres above the town, and the climb up the paved path takes an hour with four gates on the way. Kanhadadev Songara held it against Alauddin Khalji until 1311, when it fell after a long siege that ended in jauhar. Inside are Jain temples, a mosque, a Hindu shrine and the dargah of Malik Shah, all sharing the summit. Start early; there is no shade on the path.
