About Gahmar
Claimed as the largest village in Asia, with well over a lakh people, and known as the army village: more than ten thousand of its men are serving or retired soldiers, and an ex-servicemen association has run much of village life for decades. The Kamakhya Devi temple on the Ganga bank is the centre of the place and its Navratri fair is the biggest in the area. The ghat floods in September and the low fields go under most years.
