About Gagron Fort
The only water fort among the six Hill Forts of Rajasthan on the World Heritage list, standing where the Kali Sindh and the Ahu meet, with river on three sides and a moat-less rock on the fourth. The Khichi Chauhans held it from the 12th century and Achaldas Khichi died defending it against Malwa in 1423. The dargah of Mitheshah outside the gate holds a fair at Muharram. Best in the monsoon with both rivers full.
What to see and do
- River on three sides, the rivers meeting below the walls
- Achaldas Khichi and the 1423 siege
- Mitheshah dargah and the Muharram fair
- Ramparts and the two inner gates
- Monsoon, when the water comes up
