About Devanahalli Fort
A stone fort built in 1501 by the Gowda chieftains and later held by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, who was born in the town in 1750. The 12 bastioned rampart is mostly intact and can be walked, and inside are the Venugopalaswamy temple with carved friezes and a few streets of old houses. A small memorial marks the spot said to be Tipu Sultan’s birthplace just outside the wall. It is a few kilometres from the Kempegowda airport, so it makes an easy stop on the way.
