About Bhandasar Jain Temple
Bhandasa Oswal, a merchant, began it in 1468 and it was finished in 1514, dedicated to Sumatinath, the fifth Tirthankara. Three storeys of red sandstone and marble, and the interior is covered in frescoes, mirror work and gold leaf. The story everyone tells is that forty thousand kilos of ghee went into the mortar instead of water, and that it seeps up through the floor on hot days. The roof has the best view over the old city.
