About Bhairavakona
Bhairavakona is a wooded valley in the Nallamala foothills with eight rock-cut Shiva shrines cut into the cliff, dated to the 7th or 8th century in the Pallava style. A waterfall drops beside the caves after the rains and a pool below is used for bathing. The site is remote, about 40 km from Pamur and 90 km from Ongole, with the last stretch through forest. Maha Shivaratri brings a large fair. Carry water and go in the morning.
