About Basavakalyan Fort and Anubhava Mantapa
Basavakalyan, earlier called Kalyani, was the capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas and later the place where Basavanna set up the Anubhava Mantapa, a hall of open debate, in the 12th century. The fort on the edge of town was rebuilt under the Bahmanis and the Bidar sultans and has a deep moat, a large cannon and Bahmani period halls. The new Anubhava Mantapa complex and the Basaveshwara statue are nearby. The town is about 80 km west of Bidar on the Hyderabad to Solapur highway.
