About Udupi Sri Krishna Matha
The Krishna Matha at Udupi was founded by the philosopher Madhvacharya in the 13th century and is the seat of the eight Dvaita mutts that take turns running it. The idol is viewed only through a silver plated window with nine holes, the Kanakana Kindi, named after the devotee Kanakadasa. The Paryaya handover every two years in January fills the town. The temple is on Car Street in the centre of Udupi, a short walk from the bus stand, with the old Anantheshwara and Chandramouleshwara temples on the same square.
