About Udayagiri Fort
Udayagiri is a hill fort 100 km north west of Nellore, once held by the Gajapatis of Odisha and taken by Krishnadevaraya of Vijayanagara in 1512. The hill rises about 900 metres and the fort spread over its top and the town below has ruined temples, a mosque and gateways. Reaching the upper fort is a steep climb of a few hours through scrub, so start early and carry water. The lower fort and the town monuments can be seen without climbing.
