About Thawe Mandir
The main Shakti temple of Gopalganj district, six kilometres from the town. The story is that a devotee named Rahashu Bhagat was mocked by the Hathwa raja for claiming the goddess spoke to him, so he called her from Kamakhya, and she arrived here, killing the raja and his court as she came; the temple stands where she is said to have appeared. Navratri fills it for nine days twice a year. The old trees in the compound are part of the legend.
