About Sunehri Kothi
Tonk was the only Muslim princely state in Rajputana, founded by the Pathan soldier Amir Khan in 1817, and the Sunehri Kothi in the old palace complex is what its Nawabs left behind. Outside it is plain; inside is a hall of gilded stucco, mirror work, coloured glass and painted floral panels from floor to ceiling. It is often locked and unhurried, so ask around for whoever holds the key.
What to see and do
- The gilded, mirrored durbar hall
- Coloured glass and painted panels
- The old Nawabi palace complex around it
- Tonk bazaar and the Jama Masjid nearby
