About Sitab Diara (JP Narayan Birthplace)
A river island village between the Ghaghra and the Ganga on the Bihar line, birthplace of Jayaprakash Narayan, leader of the 1974 movement that brought down the Emergency government in 1977. The Lala Tola hamlet where he was born in 1902 falls on the UP side and is now Jayaprakash Nagar, with a memorial, his restored house and a library. The diara is flood country: roads are cut and the village is often reached by boat from July to October.
