About Simhachalam Temple

The Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple on a 300 m hill about 16 km from the centre of Visakhapatnam, one of the most important Vishnu shrines in Andhra Pradesh. The idol is kept covered in sandalwood paste all year and is shown in its true form only on Chandanotsavam, the Akshaya Tritiya day in April or May, when lakhs come. The temple dates to the 11th century and mixes Kalinga and Chalukya styles. Buses climb the hill road; pilgrims can also take the steps.
