About Saundatti Yellamma Temple
The hilltop shrine of Renuka Yellamma near Saundatti is one of the biggest pilgrim draws in north Karnataka, with devotees arriving from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. The temple is Chalukya in origin with later Rashtrakuta and Vijayanagara additions. The full-moon fairs from Margashira to Magha, especially Bharat Hunnime in January, bring several lakh people, so expect crowds and traffic then. Saundatti is 75 km from Belagavi; the Renuka Sagar reservoir is nearby.
