About Gokak Falls
The Ghataprabha river drops about 50 metres over a horseshoe-shaped sandstone ledge, which is why locals call it the Niagara of Karnataka. A century-old hanging bridge crosses the river just above the fall, and the Chalukya-style Mahalingeshwara temple sits on the bank. The fall is only worth seeing from July to October when the river is full; in summer it is nearly dry. Gokak town is 6 km away and has buses from Belagavi.
