About Kittur Fort
Kittur is where Rani Chennamma defeated a British force in October 1824, one of the earliest armed uprisings against the East India Company. The fort and palace are largely in ruins today, but the walls, the palace foundations and a government museum with sculpture and weapons remain. It sits right on the Belagavi to Dharwad highway, about 50 km from either city, and the Kittur Utsava is held every 23 to 25 October.
