About Sambhal Tirth Circuit
Puranic and later texts describe Sambhal as a sacred town with 68 tirths and 19 kups, sacred wells, in a circuit around it. Many were built over or forgotten; since late 2024 the administration has been locating, clearing and reopening them, including a large stepwell found under a park in Chandausi. It is a work in progress and a strange, interesting way to see the old town.
