About Saman Bird Sanctuary
A 5 sq km seasonal wetland near Kishni, an old oxbow on the Ganga floodplain, made a sanctuary in 1990 and a Ramsar site in 2019. Sarus cranes breed here and are around all year; the winter numbers are greylag and bar-headed geese, pintail, shoveler and the usual duck. There is a watchtower, no boats, and very few visitors. Best with the light behind you in the early morning.
