About Salumbar and the Hadi Rani legend
Salumbar was the seat of the Chundawat Rawats, the senior nobles of Mewar, and the fort above the town is still partly theirs. The town is known for Hadi Rani, wife of Rawat Ratan Singh Chundawat, who in the 1680s cut off her own head and sent it to her husband so he would stop pining and ride against Aurangzeb's army. The stepwell named after her is at Todaraisingh in Tonk, not here. Salumbar is a small district town on the road to Jaisamand.
