About Jaisamand Lake (Dhebar)
Maharana Jai Singh dammed the Gomti here between 1685 and 1691 and made what was for a long time the largest artificial lake in Asia, 14 km across when full. The dam is marble, 300 m long, with six chhatris and a Shiva temple along the top. Two hill palaces look down on it: the Hawa Mahal and the Ruthi Rani ka Mahal, built for a sulking queen. Boats depend on the water level and do not run in dry years.
