About Puran Devi Mandir
The goddess whose name the town is usually said to carry, in an old temple near the Saura river on the edge of Purnia city. The shrine is plain and the crowds modest except at Navratri, when the whole town turns up. Purnia was a Mughal frontier district and later a big British indigo station, and this is its oldest living landmark.
