About Phugtal Monastery

A cave monastery built into the face of a cliff above a gorge, one of the most remote and striking in the Himalaya. It is reached on foot from Purne village, with a multi day trek from Padum or a road trip and a walk from the road head. It is a place of true quiet, and visitors can stay in the monastery. Go in July to September.
