About Phalodi Fort and Havelis
Phalodi grew rich on salt and the caravan trade, and its old town is a tight grid of red sandstone havelis, with a plain 15th-century fort at its core. The fort is not a monument in the polished sense, more a walled quarter with a few carved gateways, but the haveli lanes are worth an hour. Lal Niwas, a 200-year-old red haveli, is the one to look for. Most people combine it with Khichan.
What to see and do
- The fort walls and gateways
- Lal Niwas haveli
- Carved sandstone havelis of the old town
- Jain temples in the lanes
- Khichan cranes ten minutes east
