About Palak Dil

The largest lake in Mizoram, an oval of dark water about a kilometre long in the forest near Phura, in the far south of Siaha district. The Mara call it Pala Tipo and tell of a village drowned under it. A small wildlife sanctuary wraps around the shore and the winter birding is good. It is a long way: two days from Aizawl, with the last stretch from Siaha slow and rough.
