About Pakke Tiger Reserve

An 862 sq km tiger reserve on the Assam border, bounded by the Pakke and Kameng rivers, and one of the best hornbill forests in India: four species nest here, and the Ghora-Aabhe council of Nyishi village elders and the Hornbill Nest Adoption Programme have turned former hunters into nest guardians. Tigers exist but are seldom seen. Entry is from Seijosa, 60 km from Tezpur; there is a forest rest house and a few homestays.
