About Narayanpur Dam (Basava Sagar)
Narayanpur Dam, formally Basava Sagar, holds back the Krishna river on the border of Yadgir and Vijayapura districts and feeds the Upper Krishna irrigation canals. The crest gates are opened when the river runs high in August and September, which is when most visitors come. A garden and a small park by the dam are open to the public and the backwaters draw winter birds. The dam is about 30 km south west of Shorapur.
