About Nagi and Nakti Bird Sanctuaries
Two irrigation reservoirs a few kilometres apart near Jhajha, both notified as bird sanctuaries in 1984 and both declared Ramsar sites in 2024, the first in south Bihar. Winter brings thousands of bar-headed geese, red-crested pochard, pintail and other ducks down to these dry-hill lakes, and Nagi in particular has some of the largest geese counts in the state. It is a forest department area; check in at the barrier and bring binoculars.
