About Masarh

A village 10 km west of Arrah on the old highway, sitting on a mound that has produced finds from the Mauryan period onward, including a polished stone lion now in the Patna Museum and Jain images of Parshvanath. It is identified with Mahasara, a town mentioned in Jain texts. A modern Jain temple houses some of the sculptures; the rest of the site is fields and a mound. For archaeology-minded travellers passing between Arrah and Buxar.
