About Malhargad (Sonori)
Built by the Panse family around 1757, Malhargad has the odd distinction of being the last fort the Marathas ever constructed. It is compact and quick, with intact inner walls and two temples, and being under an hour from Pune it makes an ideal early-morning outing before the heat builds.
What to see and do
- Khandoba and Mahadev temples inside
- Intact inner fortification ring
- Sunrise over the Saswad valley
- Easy enough for an absolute first trek
