About Lohagad
Probably the most-trekked fort in Maharashtra, and deservedly so, a local train to Malavli, a short walk, and four grand gateways take you to the top. The Vinchu Kata or 'scorpion's tail' is a long, narrow fortified spur running off the main fort that looks exactly like its name from above.
What to see and do
- Vinchu Kata, the scorpion-tail spur
- Four successive gateways: Ganesh, Narayan, Hanuman, Maha
- Lakshmi Kothi cave chambers
- Bhaja and Karla caves nearby
- Pawna lake and Tikona-Tung views
- Reachable by local train from Mumbai and Pune
Part of Sahyadri (Western Ghats).
