About Lepakshi Veerabhadra Temple

A 16th century Vijayanagara temple built on a tortoise shaped rock, famous for its hanging pillar, its Natya Mandapa with carved dancers and musicians, and the best surviving Vijayanagara mural paintings on its ceilings. Outside the village stands a monolithic Nandi, about 4.5 m high and 8 m long, one of the largest in India. Lepakshi is 15 km from Hindupur and about 120 km from Bengaluru, an easy day trip on the Anantapur highway.
