About Lali Pahari
A low red hill on the edge of Lakhisarai where excavations begun in 2017 uncovered a Pala-period Buddhist monastery, with cells, a shrine and a sealing that helped tie the site to Krimila, the town Xuanzang and Pala records mention. It is a live archaeological site, so what you see is trenches and low walls with a view over the Kiul river. For anyone following the Buddhist trail beyond Nalanda, it is a real find.
What to see and do
- Excavated monastery cells and shrine
- The Krimila identification
- View over the Kiul river
- A working dig, not a finished monument
