About Ashokdham
On 7 April 1977 a boy called Ashok was playing on a mound near Lakhisarai and uncovered a large black-stone Shivling; the temple that grew up around it took his name, though the deity is Indradamneshwar Mahadev. It is now the biggest temple in the district, with a Shivratri fair and heavy Shravan crowds. The lingam is thought to be from the Pala period, when this area was thick with monasteries and temples.
